Successful & not Successful Collaboration:
the simplest possible example:
A more sophisticated example:
Being tucked in a corner with limited time, next to me the excited faces of my new found friends, we discuss and we make. This what it was like in a successful collaboration. A few hours before I came to the Hackathon, I scoped out the people for the project. I searched for people that have similar temperament and who would make each other laugh. This always works for me but is not always easy. Finding the people you want to find is not an easy task. Once I had a team, we were off talking and making something. We each shared a fraction of the work. The rest of the time was talking and helping each other stay energized. Telling each other funny things going on or showing our friend that we supported his need to take a break.
What not successful collaboration looks like sometimes:
In another project I did: it is 9 AM in the morning and I am asked “are we making it a static or dynamic webpage?” it is 12 PM “what feature do we need next?” it is 3 PM “ what do I need to do next”. This scenario has happened to me many times. I should have understood something was wrong from the first question. It is okay to have questions but not continuous management. I need to be able to do things and they need to be able to do things. Not successful collaboration is when there is more talking then doing. Obviously not everyone sees the inspirational idea. When we are collaborating successfully we are naturally communicating, sharing the vision.
“ Please edit my picture” asked my best friend. A simple task, I answer “No”. If I am not intrinsically motivated to do something I prefer not to and because I will not put my best effort and even if I want to(unless it is life or death). Intrinsic motivation is a enjoying something for the sake of the activity. In human psychology, intrinsic motivation is the highest form of motivation. For a more harmonious society I think it is best that we try and help each other in the best way we can and delegate the rest. We need to learn to say no to people, when we cannot help or when they do not share the same inspirational idea. Collaborations work! In the first part of creativity people are best left alone and then work combined. After something has been made, we judge and see what is missing or needs to be changed.
