We all need a little inspiration now and then to keep going, and most of us have a couple of people we admire for being more put-together than we are and for providing us with some much-needed direction.

An example is our co-workers. They occupy a good position in the organization, drive our dream cars, and have a loving incredible-looking partner.

How about your neighbor? A loving couple with well-disciplined children, they have a beautiful home and are perfect examples of model citizens.

Look at your role model they have an excellent work-life balance, and not one of the essential elements in their life is neglected.

Their life looks flawless; everything is going great. Yet you and I have endless flaws. You struggle to find a partner because you are too chubby, taller, skinny, or shorter. In your 30 and still lack stability in your finances, or you still need to finish college even after five years.

The list is long, honey! We might not finish it this year.

I look up to Michelle Obama in matters of feminism and womanhood, Mark Cuban in financial decisions and investments, Sarah Jakes in spirituality, and Ayodeji Awosika in my writing career. These are just a few, and I only know of a flaw if they mention it.

But contrary to how media and social platforms display me, you and every human on earth, despite their social status, have one common thing Imperfections.

One of the basic rules of the universe is that nothing is perfect. Perfection simply doesn’t exist…..Without imperfection, neither you nor I would exist— Stephen Hawking.

Imperfections level the ground for all of us.

It is mind-blowing to know that a neighbor or a colleague you admire has imperfections, yet you have never witnessed one bad hair day or a particle of dirt on their shoes.

Imperfections are universal; the difference between our role models and us is that we prioritize them over what we have going well. So everyone we encounter reads it on our faces.

The news that Michelle Obama doubts her ability to impact during podcast shows and her book tours, came as a complete surprise to me. She has to hush the doubts in her mind as she gets ready to go public with her message, and sometimes her husband has to come in to reassure her that she is prepared. The woman is a fountain of knowledge and confidence, yet she battles self-doubt occasionally.

So cut yourself some slack; your hero or role model, too, has imperfections. They are human like you and I, not gods, so don’t look down on yourself; embrace your flaws. They will never stop bothering you, nor will they end.

Imperfections are not inadequacies; they are reminders that we’re all in this together. ― Brené Brown

But as you get older, your skin thickens, and you can ignore them. You will not mind whether you have the filter on during your Instagram stories, millions in your name, or a flat tummy. You’ll hone your strengths and strengthen your weaknesses.

And as Toba Beta says, Practice doesn’t make perfect. Practice reduces imperfection.
