Who Really Wins When You Cheat?
You will lose more than the people you cheat. — Annelise Lords
Saturdays are one of my market days, because the people I buy from only come on that day. I love buying from the country folks. They are kinder, more understanding, and many don’t stick out on their prices.
I wanted pineapple and was short of $50. I often purchase pineapple from her, but on Thursdays. She said her daughter is in school, so she can’t come on Thursdays anymore. So that’s why she is here on Saturday, at a different location, too.
I told her I would return with her money, as my husband was outside the market waiting for me. She agreed quickly. When I returned, two guys were there, and as I handed her the fifty dollars, she said to them, “Didn’t I tell you she would return? I won the bet, so pay me.”
I stared at them with furled brows as they eyed me in awe.
She was laughing and enjoying her win, then shared, “They said you won’t return to pay me. I bet them that you would.”
Smiling, while thanking my Creator for this gift, the devil in me asked, “What if I didn’t return?”
