Whom Do You Blame For Your Mistakes?

Blame is lighter when shared — Annelise Lords.

While listening to a group of older adults talk about their lives, mistakes, and regrets, I was shocked that they blamed everyone in their lives except themselves.

I am aware that blame is lighter when shared, but come on. Don’t we all have a choice? When blame is shifted, the individuals learns nothing from their mistakes, making repeating them easier. Many of us know humans who repeatedly make the same stupid mistakes, messing up their own lives and the lives and living of their children and those who rely on them.

For every mistake I make, I blame myself first.

Yes, I blame myself. I should be smarter than that. I then pay the piper, learn my lessons, and move on. That mistake is never repeated, thanks to pain and my deja vu moments.

If you don’t take responsibility for your mistakes, you will keep paying the piper repeatedly until you learn. If you take responsibility immediately, you pay once while learning something good from your mistakes. Chances are you might not repeat them.

Paying once is good. Mistakes are lessons for me. My decisions are my life, and my life is my decision. I am the only one who makes decisions that will change my life. So, I blame ME!
