Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
God appears on earth to reign.

This hymn by the prolific English hymn writer Charles Wesley is one of THE classic Advent hymns from most church hymn collections — and is sometimes considered one of “The Great Four.”

In 1885, the Revd James King — a man with more time on his hands than he should have had — surveyed 52 hymnals from the member churches of the Anglican Communion around the world and found that 51 of them included the so-called Great Four.

Along with this hymn were “Hark the Herald, angels sing” — also by Charles Wesley — “Rock of Ages” and one I’d never heard called “All Praise to Thee, my God, this night.”

So what can we say about “Lo, he comes”?
