What If You Don’t Know Your WHY?

Everybody talks about the importance of knowing your WHY.

It’s more important than your WHAT or HOW. Right?

Remember that famous TED talk by Simon Sinek? He has a simple but powerful model for inspirational leadership — starting with a golden circle and the question “Why?” In his talk, he gave examples of Apple, Martin Luther King, and the Wright brothers

And I talk about “WHY” too, I actually have drawn lots of silly graphs about this WHY thing. Here is one

But what if you don’t know your WHY?

Maybe you have a 9–5 but you don’t know the “why”.

Maybe you have a startup business but you don’t know the why.

Maybe you have an idea but, not sure why you want to do it.

So are you doomed? Are you going to fail because you don’t know your “why”?

Personally I think HELL NO. Nobody is born knowing their “why”. We all figure it out along the way if we are willing to take action. Here is what I would do, sit in silence and ask yourself these questions

  • What turns you on? (NO, not like that)
  • What is your flow state? or when do you feel unstoppable?
  • Is it when you write? or Workout? or cook?

Once you know your flow state, do more of that and do it with intention.

It’s OK to not know your WHY. But, it’s not OK to make it an excuse for not taking action (ali)

Action cures everything. If you take consistent action, you will find out what you were born to do.

So what are you going to do? Just sit or take action and figure out that crazy WHY thing along the way?
