Studying your ass off to get the job you hate
Is really the university degree that substantial for your career?
Applied Knowledge is power! I truly believe in the importance of constant education and the lifelong learning but I need to say there are a lot of things wrong with our education system. The value of the classic education system is eroding. The society far overestimating the importance to get the best degree from the well-known institution and most of us couldn't see any other way how to get a great job position and become recognised in the chosen industry.
The tuition fees have generally increased around 11 per cent in the last 6 years, and at the same time the value of the degree had dramatically fall. Year by year more and more students are coming out with the exactly same diploma creating a very fierce battle in the job market. This situation has created a mass of people who are in the middle of their twenties and who already are heavily soaring in tuition fee dept.
In addition, companies don't have interest to pay more because of the high demand of those great educated people. The average starting salaries have fallen almost 11 per cent from £24293 to £21,702 over five years in a real term. It means that, many entrants need a second job for years to cover their growing life expenditures and more time to pay back the due and get rid of the overwhelmingly heavy student loan.
Apart from this serious situation, I think the biggest problem what we need to deal with is not just the declining value of the university degree or the increscent tuition fees.The way how the young people are thinking about their career is absolutely crucial. Many people chose their profession based mainly on the starting salary rather than looking more deeply what they like or are passionate about!
New graduates jump into the first job offer rather than creating a strategy about their career.
Research revealed recently shows that about almost 25% of the people are trapped in a wrong profession and most of them don't have any idea how they can deal with the situation. Instead, they will continue to do the job which they hate. Most young people have realised too late that they have been caught in a trap from which they couldn't see the way out.
The people who are going to step into the job market or who are already in there need to realise that the rules of the game have been changed and if they do not learn how they can play the new game they will lose equally in a short and long term as well. However, before you blindly follow the ancient and a bit outdated mantra: “the key to get a well-paid job is; go to the best school, get the highest grades and create a lifelong friendship with your classmates” please place the centre of your attention on;
what the heck you really want to do every day in the rest of your life?!
Spend a little more time to find out what are you really passionate about? Instead of chasing better — or — a second University degree, move the centre of gravity in the field and get real experience!
Are you interesting why most people keep doing the job which they hate? Do you want to know how you can prevent to burn-out in your profession? How can you find the career what you really want to do? — Or —
