You have read about the benefits of waking up early, perhaps a million times. The internet is flooded with articles about how waking up early help us in achieving our goals and how this is the key success mantra of successful CEOs executives and influential personalities all around the world. So, in this post we are not going to tell you about the advantages of waking up early. Instead, we shall focus on a more important aspect i.e. what to do once you have woken up? Waking up early in the morning and checking your mails or social media feed would be of no good. So there must be some meaningful work or habits which you should inculcate in your morning routine to have a more meaningful and focused mornings which shall then kick start your day.

The best thing to do once you are out of the bed — Sculpt Yourself

Private victory always precedes public victory.” –Stephen Covey

Remember that your most prized possession, your most precious asset is you yourself. So early mornings should be utilized to improve your skills, to add value to your life, so that each day you are better than yesterday. Also, once you have worked upon yourself the first thing in the morning, you will be filled with a sense of satisfaction which will improve the quality of your day thereafter. Following are the things you should do before the world is up and running:

  • Meditate: The benefit of meditation is known to mankind since ages. It is an undeniable fact that meditation improves you on multiple fronts- from increased focus to reduced stress and anxiety. It also helps you in aligning your goals toward leading a meaningful life. In the morning, the world outside is quiet and devoid of distractions, thereby presenting you the ideal time for your meditation sessions. So, you should meditate for at least 15–30 minutes in the morning to reap the benefits of this ancient wizardry.
Meditation is to mind, what exercise is to the body.
  • Exercise: Remember, that in a healthy body lives a healthy mind. You will unanimously agree that sitting on the desk for long hours has taken a toll on your health. Many studies and surveys have pointed out that sitting and staring at the laptop for long hours have resulted in increased diseases in younger generations. Over a prolonged period, this cut short your life by several years. You may resolve that you will exercise tomorrow, but once the mad rush begins- those long to-do lists and unproductive meetings make sure that your exercising goal is pushed to the back burner. Mornings provide you with fresh air and surreal natural environment which is very beneficial for your health. So you should make it a habit to exercise your body in the morning. Exercising, even for 15–30 minutes every day will suffice in achieving your goal of living a healthy life.
  • Reviewing your written life goals: Ask anyone what their life goals are and most of the times you will get an ambitious goal as answer. Ask them what they are doing to achieve them and most of the times you won’t get any answer at all. Everyone want to achieve something large and meaningful in their life, but are all stuck up in the rat race, running aimlessly after others without doing anything to accomplish their life goals. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that every day before you head out to work, you review your written life goals (Remember, goals unless they are written, are merely dreams). Writing a journal is the best way to be on track. This will force you to think, as to what you are doing to achieve them. Doing this exercise everyday will bring drastic change in the way you utilize your time and slowly over the period you will start doing things which shall truly help you in achieving them.
Writing a daily journal help you remain focused toward your life goals.
  • Educate yourself- Investment in yourself is the best investment you can make. And early mornings are the best time for this purpose. Utilizing your mornings for educating yourself will help you become efficient and accomplish more throughout your day. Taking time to hone your professional skills or immersing yourself in timeless wisdom of literary classics will broaden your perspective and ultimately help you in getting the more out of your life.
  • Gratitude: Most of us undermine the benefits that gratitude reaps us. Thanking the almighty for everything we have got in our life helps us lead a more contented life. However, it is not something which should be done once a year on Thanksgiving Day with all pomp and show. Instead you should practice it every day to see the miracle it brings to your life. It is known to improve your life on every front, be it social or emotional. It also brings out a different side of your personality which is eager to help others and make the world a better place. Therefore, each day pause for a moment and think about all the wonderful things you have got around and be thankful for them.

As mentioned earlier, getting up early in the morning reaps us many benefits. By practicing the above points, you will gain exponential benefits of your early mornings which will help you achieve more in your life.
