Do You Have a Feature Worthy Story?

We’ve had Inspired Writer closed for over a year now while I was studying, only occasionally posting our long-time writers’ work. But now my studies are done so….

Time to open the gates. Just a crack. I’m not publicizing this too widely, as the editing team is pretty small at the moment.

What I want to do is encourage writers more and support you to grow.

That means having experienced writers sharing their wisdom.

It also means hearing great stories from a wide range of writers.

Publication editors have been given a new tool recently where we can feature our best writers and Medium’s algorithm will enable them to get more views. I’ve already used it to feature three of our writers:

Could You be Our Next Featured Writer?

Our most recent featured piece was from the wonderful Daniel Andrew Boyd, who always puts so much thought into his work. His featured piece “You’re Stuck Looking Back” is about the power of tense in storytelling.

My passion is telling stories live and from the stage. This is work I believe all writers should add to their arsenal of skills. And after coaching 1000 storytellers in 2022, I noticed a pattern: nearly everyone starts by telling their entire story in past tense. Here’s why that happens, and how to fix it.

Kayla Hicks is one of our most frequent writers and has a vast bank of knowledge to offer around self-publishing, book promotion, and novel writing.

Her featured story How to Start Writing a Book is a handy starting point for writers finally ready to give a novel a go.

Chandrayan Gupta is another one of our regular writers with plenty of knowledge to share.

His piece “I Became a #1 Amazon Bestseller Using These Strategies” was featured, Boosted, and has so far gained over 1.2K views.

Will the next featured story be yours?

What are we looking for?

In general, excellent writing. We’re going to be a little more picky this year. Your piece will either be accepted or it won’t be. Part of the reason we closed our doors was because the quality of submissions dropped and we got sick of wading through it all.

I’m sure you won’t do any of these, but if a story is:

  • full of mistakes,
  • has no point to it,
  • is written by AI,
  • or doesn’t fit our publication,

then it will get a no from us.

We accept stories about writing AND personal essays. If you’re not sure what a personal essay is, read some of our winners from our past contests.

I can’t wait to see what you write. I try to get to every submission within 48 hours, but please be patient — especially on weekends.

Thank you!
