The boy’s small frame presses against the grass, wetting the back of his shirt. He doesn’t care. The pure anticipation of a comet flying over his house is enough to distract him.

Suddenly, his patience is rewarded as a trail of light streaks quickly across the dark sky. It’s more magnificent than any of the pictures.

His infatuation is broken by his mother’s footsteps coming through the front door and into the yard. His father trails behind her. “Have we missed it?” she asks.

“No. It hasn’t come yet”, he responds, hoping they will lay with him until it does.
