Connections

One thing I learn about selling from being an owner of a small business is nothing matters more than connections.

It doesn’t matter how good our products are. It doesn’t matter how popular our products are or whether or not we provide the cheapest stuffs in the market. Buyers will always find an excuse to reject us and buy from people they know. … Why is that?

Because business is not business … it is personal.

Everyone of us feel better and safer to buy from people we know, from a company referred by our family, or from a brand we trust. Connections are very important. But to me, what is as important is how we earn those connections.

Until you’ve built a great product, almost nothing else matters. — Sam Altman, Y Combinator

That is what my team and I believe. A great product is the most important foundation to building good connections. I want them to pick me because they are confident that my product is the best — not because they know me the best.

I want them to pick me because they are confident that I will always take a very good care of them — not because I need to beg and ask for a favor from them.

I want them to pick me because they are confident that my product provides greatest return on their investment — not because I cut the price in half.

I want them to pick me because they are confident that I can respond to their needs effectively — not because … (you fill in the blank).

There is no better way to build quality connections than building a great product first.

It takes time. — Yes.

It consumes a lot of effort. — Definitely.

There is no shortcut. — No shortcut unfortunately.

But it is worth doing. — I believe so.

Nowadays, my team and I spend most of our time working on our product. We want to make it the best in its own space. No, it doesn’t have to be complete with full-fledged features. But what we want it to be, it must be really good.

I am so focusing on the product. This by no mean I ignore building connections but rather … I just want to do it the right way.

Thinking and writing are the things I like. Sharing is what I love. Because of them, I write everyday to share stories from my thoughts and experiences, from the future I see and believe in. Everything I use to build Inthentic a better home. A home of people who want to do good things and give back. A home that is a small starting point of changes for a better society. I am proud of what I am doing. And even prouder to know that I am not doing it alone.
