In The Dark Hole

I was living in the dark hole for so long. I wasn’t aware of it until this morning. After I presented my product idea to a group of 10 committees, who were there to judge if my company should get a government support for a marketing budget.

I was granted only five minutes to convince them followed by a 10-minute question and answer session. And those fifteen minutes woke me up. It uncovered the ugly truths and flaws in my idea and product.

Even though it is a brand new idea that utilizes new technologies and no direct competitors but it requires a huge investment in hardware.

Even though there is a strong demand from a target industry but only few clients are big and rich enough to be able to pay.

Even though we have a very modular software that really support plug-and-pay and customization but a sales process is very long because we are selling to big enterprises.

Even though we are a competent software team but in order to succeed we need to rely a lot on hardware partners who we can’t control.

I knew those flaws exist but I didn’t think they are that bad. But after I was fired with some questions by the committees, yeah, they are that bad.

It was an eye opening moment for me. By showing it to the world, sharing it to strangers, or telling it to a group of people who don’t bias (your family, your co-worker, your close friend, and yourself don’t count), I learned quite the hard way about 100 reasons why my business won’t take off.

My team and I were in the dark hole for too long. It’s time to get out. It’s time for me to change that. I don’t know how yet. I just hope it’s not too late.

Thinking and writing are the things I like. Sharing is what I love. Because of them, I write everyday to share stories from my thoughts and experiences, from the future I see and believe in. Everything I use to build Inthentic a better home. A home of people who want to do good things and give back. A home that is a small starting point of changes for a better society. I am proud of what I am doing. And even prouder to know that I am not doing it alone.

Thanks for reading. :-)
