The “Miches”

If one day, we stop learning, we stop developing … what do we become?

Personal answer: We are the same human-being. We use the same name. We have the same habit. We work on the same job. We stick with the same lifestyle.

Social answer: We will become a laggard. Especially with our employer. Especially with our bosses.

The truth is we will never stop learning. Our everyday’s job, our life we live all contribute to new life lessons and experiences that we can take advantage of. The point is most of the time those lessons and experiences we have learned recently won’t be needed by the bosses. They aren’t on the industry trends (whatever they are). They don’t comply with social standards set out by whoever.

• This is the newest technique to develop an iOS app.
• This is the trendy process to plan a project.
• This is the most advanced testing suite.
• This is the latest-most-popular website layout.

Have you ever heard of any of them before? Unfortunately, no, we haven’t.

Those who know about them are admirable in looking around and their continuous learning. But it is not us.

• The whole internal systems — We know.
• The entire internal tools — We built them ourselves.
• Clients, partners, colleagues — We remember them all. We have built a really good relationship with them for a long time.

It is Mass vs. Niche.

Nowadays, many of us are pushed from external factors (industry, employers, bosses, colleagues) to develop ourselves into Mass because from their point of view, Mass employees are more valuable to the company.

Not necessarily.

• Finding a good iOS developer is completely doable. But finding a good iOS developer who knows our code-base is very hard.
• Finding someone who is good at managing projects is not too hard. But finding someone who is good at managing projects and in the same time know the business and industry inside out is very very hard.
• Finding a trendy artist-like designer is not too hard. But finding a good designer who understands and lives with our values and work process is not an easy job.

When Mass helps open up our eyes and when Niche helps discover our true self. When Mass is external and Niche is internal. And when we value them both equally, then the greatest benefit will be created professionally and personally.

Be a “Miche” employee and we won’t regret it.

Thinking and writing are the things I like. Sharing is what I love. Because of them, I write everyday to share stories from my thoughts and experiences, from the future I see and believe in. Everything I use to build Inthentic a better home. A home of people who want to do good things and give back. A home that is a small starting point of changes for a better society. I am proud of what I am doing. And even prouder to know that I am not doing it alone.
