What Color Are Your Dreams?

Happy Birthday to Henry David Thoreau! Born nearly 200 years ago on July 12, 1817 — he is arguably one of my favorite authors. He was a philosopher, journalist, and poet and perhaps is best known for his book Walden.

If I could meet him, I would ask him what it must have been like to live on a pond as he did. From that experience he had some great things to say.

Here are a few of my favorite sayings from Thoreau:

All good things are wild and free.

be yourself- not your idea of what you think somebody else’s idea of yourself should be.

Books are the treasured wealth of the world and the fit inheritance of generations and nations.

Dreams are the touchstones of our characters.

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you’ve imagined.

Never look back unless you are planning to go that way.

Our life is frittered away by detail. Simplify, simplify.

I’m not sure what the colors were that inspired the dreams of Henry David Thoreau — but I am thankful that he has provided us with every color imaginable to create our own dreams.
