Have you ever thought about how far we have come in our abilities to connect with people from all over the world, and how far we will go in the future? The Internet and technology, in general, are continuously growing and improving as time passes. Technology has many positive impacts on our personal and professional life, by adding convenience and productivity in the digital world.

Some of the biggest innovations in the technology world are machine learning and artificial intelligence. We have already talked about them, but now it’s time to explain what machine learning actually is and why it matters.

Simply said, machine learning is a method of data analysis that teaches computers to do what we, as humans, naturally do — learning from experience. It is a part of artificial intelligence and its idea is that computers can learn from data, identify patterns and make decisions without human intervention at all, or with minimal human intervention. Machine learning technique works with algorithms with which it uses different methods for learning directly from data.

Most of us don’t know, but we are surrounded by machine learning every day. For example, all of the online recommendations such as those from Netflix or eBay are machine learning. All of the advertisements based of what we have already visited on the browsers are machine learning. The ability to know what people say about you on Twitter is also machine learning. Face recognition, motion detection, and image processing are machine learning. There are numerous examples of how machine learning is a part of our everyday life. It has become a key technique for solving problems today.

Most of the industries and organizations that work with large amounts of data have recognized the importance of machine learning. That’s why they started implementing machine learning techniques into their businesses, in order to work more efficiently. For instance, machine learning is present in the following industries:

Government — machine learning helps governments to better ensure public safety, analyze data, identify ways to save money, detect fraud, etc.

Health care — machine learning helps health care organizations to improve the way of analyzing data for identifying critical symptoms that may lead to better diagnoses or treatment.

machine learning helps banks and other financial institutions to identify investment opportunities, identify key insights in data, prevent fraud, etc.

machine learning helps retailers to better know their customers, analyze their data in order to personalize the whole shopping experience, develop a marketing campaign, optimize a process, etc.

Transport — machine learning helps the transportation industry to develop better routes and to be able to predict potential problems.

As we can see, machine learning has huge importance in our lives, and it is making many industries better. That’s why it is so important and why a lot of industries work with that technique. Machine learning has been around for a long time, but now it is growing more and more and it is expected that machine learning will become the biggest data analyzing method all over the world.
