lull. a flash fiction peace

relax. you’ve been working too hard.

everyone out there will be watching you. give it a break. don’t wanna look groggy for work tomorrow. give your mind a break.

always a struggle to get up in the morning. never feel like you’ve gotten enough sleep. most mornings, doesn’t feel like you got any. woe is you. a sole crusader in the land of nod, afraid to lie in the shade of its trees.

still can’t fall asleep? relax. jenny won’t tell harvard boy that you two have been. how’d she put it. talking. she would put her own job on the line. it sounds strange considering she saved us last quarter, but jeremiah would kick her out in a heartbeat if he found out what she did on your desk. with your slight assistance. you know you can work his brain. you’ve won.

relax. there’s no reason to worry. everything will be fine. sometimes cautious optimism is the appropriate response. just let it all go. and sink.

then the alarm clock screams, and you realize you’ve sung all night again.
