The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) agreed to extend their partnership with athletic kit designer Adidas. The German brand’s agreement was previously set to expire in 2026 but is now extended through 2030.

Although the two brands have been partnered for the past 35 years, they extended their partnership in 2015 with a seven-year kit deal. However, a few months ago, word surfaced that the RFEF wanted to pursue terminating their contract with Adidas. This past June Adidas responded by threatening to take legal action against the RFEF to ensure the Spanish football governing body fulfilled their side going forward.

The RFEF asserted Adidas undervalued the Spanish national team property and aggressively pursued a new kit partner for the 2020 European Champions. However, RFEF’s plan never came to fruition due to the likelihood Adidas may seek sizable compensation payments for a broken deal.

The new Spain Adidas partnership means La Roja, Spain’s national football team, will continue to wear the German brand just as they have for the past 35 years. The current partnership for the 2019–2020 season stands at €15 million in addition to 3.2 million worth of product.

While this amount is significantly less than the RFEF hoped to receive from Adidas, the possibility of a court battle along with compensation payments halted any further action.

The new Spanish national teams kit for Euro 2020 was released Monday, November 11th, and is said to unite football with art.
