The National Basketball Association announced a multi-year deal with online sportsbook PointsBet naming them an authorized sports betting partner of the league. The partnership is the first in the U.S. for the Australian based company and the 11th authorized betting partner working with the NBA.

“We are thrilled to partner with PointsBet on its first U.S. sports league betting partnership, as they continue to grow their business throughout the U.S,” stated Scott Kaufman-Ross, NBA Senior Vice President, Head of Fantasy & Gaming.

“PointsBet has a unique offering in the marketplace and we are excited to find new ways to engage with fans together.”

PointsBet, which launched in January of 2019, will provide the league with their ‘Win Probability Metric.’ The system is designed to give fans ‘real-time insight towards projected outcomes’ through the use of PointBet statistics and analytics.

“As a tech company at heart, the PointsBet team is excited to work with a league as savvy and forward-thinking as the NBA,” stated Johnny Aitken, CEO of PointsBet USA.

“We’re certainly aligned in looking to present fans with the best experience possible, and we look forward to enhancing the sports betting aspect via the Win Probability Metric Powered by PointsBet.”

PointsBet’s proprietary metric will be integrated across specific NBA platforms, including the league’s social media channels and NBA.com.

As the win probabilities will fluctuate in real-time throughout the game based on PointBet’s analytics, the sportsbook will now have access to the NBA’s official betting data feeds and league trademarks.

Providing fans with continually changing win metrics creates an exciting environment that encourages continued fan engagement. The partnership is a strategic move by the league to provide an additional method of live-game interaction.

The goal is to convince the newer generation of fans to engage using other methods than various social media platforms. Working with a digital partner, PointsBet will undoubtedly encourage fans to watch games live to see the ever-changing win probabilities. It is vital to continue to encourage live sports viewing on multiple platforms for growth within the sports world.
