Australian-born serial entrepreneur Anthony Puntoriero saw a void in the sports sponsorship industry while playing in the Sony Open Pro-Am in 2010.

Puntoriero observed that there were numerous mid-level PGA Tour players who lacked sponsorship logos on their hats, bags, and shirts…despite the fact that all of these professionals would receive television exposure and could potentially be paired with a Top-10 golfer in the later rounds of the tournament (which would lead to even greater television exposure).

The Aussie began to question the lack of sponsorship and found that sponsorship space (or inventory) goes unsold quite often. In fact, the sports sponsorship industry as a whole suffers two major pain-points:

On average, 30 percent (or more) of sports sponsorship inventory goes unsold each year across all sports, resulting in billions of dollars in lost revenue for the rights holders — teams, leagues, athletes, agencies. Additionally, the barrier of entry into the sponsorship ecosystem is far too dense for brands who are not Fortune 500 companies.

Small and mid-sized brands do not have the same spending power as Fortune 500 companies. But these brands have marketing budgets that will allow them to purchase short-term sponsorship campaigns. The barrier to entry is standing in their way.

Furthermore, sponsorship is difficult to secure quickly and efficiently. The process typically takes 5 months or more to complete. That journey consists of tedious steps like cold-calling/cold-emailing, the sales pitch, traveling, and negotiating all before finally executing the sponsorship deal.

What if there was a way to simplify…better yet automate…those first 3–4 steps and bring both parties to the negotiation table?

Introducing Instant Sponsor

Introducing Instant Sponsor’s blockchain-powered sports sponsorship platform. This revolutionary platform will act as a conduit between rights holders and sponsors, connecting the two parties on this peer-to-peer network.

The key to this platform is connecting brands with rights holders/sponsorship opportunities through patented matching algorithms that factor in targeting demographics and budget, maximizing exposure and providing quantifiable metrics for every dollar spent. Instant Sponsor prides itself on efficiency and delivering real-time procurement of sponsorships.

“It’s interesting when I think about how Instant Sponsor actually started, it was about helping the small guy play on sport’s biggest stage with the big sponsors,” Puntotoerio said during a Business Rockstars Interview. “And we do that by breaking sponsorship opportunities down to affordable chunks, and affordable packages where companies that have $5,000, $10,000, or $2,000 can still play with the ‘big guys’. Albeit for a snapshot of that time.”

Make no mistake, Instant Sponsor’s platform will have diverse opportunities when the platform is launched in Q1 2019.

Short-Term Sponsorship

Short-term sponsorship opportunities allow for brands to bet on a horse after the race has already begun.

For instance, if an NBA team starts to gain traction during a given month a brand may want to purchase sponsorship opportunities with that team while they are on a hot streak.

Instant Sponsor’s platform will act as the conduit between the two parties and allow for that sponsorship transaction to happen in a matter of hours, as opposed to a matter of months.

This will allow for a team to sell sponsorship leading up to a big game — or set of games — in the middle of the season, which will further increase their bottom line.

Or take for example a no-name PGA Tour player (with open sponsorship opportunities) gets hot during a large event like The Masters or U.S. Open. If he finds himself in contention on the weekend, then your brand may want to take advantage of the open spaces on that player’s chest, sleeve, hat, or bag.

Television and social media exposure of golf’s major events could allow for a brand to see a massive return on investment for sponsoring the winning athlete…or one that is in contention on the final day.

Instant Sponsor has the means of creating these opportunities so that both parties come away feeling like a winner. The sponsor in both examples created extraordinary amounts of brand awareness in a short burst of time on sport’s biggest stage.

While the rights holder was able to sell a portion of their sponsorship inventory that would typically go unsold in years past.
