Bali boasts a vast number of ancient temples, but nothing parallels the Tanah Lot. This rock formation off the Bali Island is a home to the pilgrimage temple Pura Tanah. According to legends, the founder of the temple turned his shawl into a giant snake to protect the temple — which may explain why you can only find the mysterious black and white striped holy snakes here!

The Break Up Island: Local superstitions claims that unmarried couples who watch the sunset at the Tanah Lot by themselves would break up within 6 months and hence is supposedly off-limits to them.

True or not, this place is worth visiting for its impressive location and unique rock culture.

3. Test your courage at the mountain village, Trunyan
