RN74 is one of the many great Michael Mina restaurants managed by The Mina Group. Michael Mina creatively combined the best French cuisine with local seafood, bold flavors, and a gorgeous dining environment.

It is every aspiring chef’s dream to work under a world renowned chef like Michael Mina, but do you have what it takes?

Instawork sat down with Stephanie Bachez, Talent Acquisition Manager for the Mina Group, to learn more about their hiring practices for the James Beard Award winning restaurant RN74.

IW: Michael Mina & RN74 have won James Beard Awards in 2010 & 2016. How does that impact your hiring practice?

SB: Our success is because we are surrounded by a highly talented team that has a relentless passion and desire to be great in everything they do. I don’t believe our hiring practices have changed, however it has proven that our current strategy in what we look for is effective to our success as a company.

IW: How many years have you been finding talent for Mina Group?

SB: I’ve been a part of the Talent & Culture team for half a year now. Six months down and many more years to go!

IW: What is most important to you when hiring a new employee?

SB: The key ingredient I look for is passion for growth, both on a professional and personal level. At the Mina Group we are passionate on continues improvement (kaizen). Anyone who has a drive to better themselves each and every day, is the attitude we want on our team.

IW: What types of skills and experience do you look for when hiring a manager?

SB: We look for Managers that have a strong and proven track record in leadership, mentorship and interactive training skills. With our company growing and expanding restaurants and concepts, we have endless growth opportunities to offer our employees. Because of this, we rely and trust our managers to set our employees up for success in their current role and to build their confidence for future opportunities with us.

IW: What makes a great work environment at RN74?

SB: We are proud to share that RN74 has a strong, collaborative, team oriented foundation — this makes for great success each day and a fun positive environment to be a part of.

IW: What is the biggest challenge your facing right now from a talent/staff perspective

SB: Some of our challenges are what makes my job so exciting — working with a small talent pool and finding that unique gem to join our team!
