Select an interview time

Once you’ve been selected for an interview, you’ll receive a push notification and a text message asking you to use Instawork’s scheduling tool to pick a time slot. The sooner the time slot, the better. Businesses are hiring fast!

Before committing to the interview, check out the location on a map to make sure you’ll be able to commute there. Read the full job description, wages, benefits and shift requirements.

You’ll have the option to cancel or reschedule the interview if you can’t make it or if you’ve already accepted a different job. If you don’t show up to an interview, you’ll be marked as a ‘no-show’ on your profile which will impact how future businesses view your application. Having a zero ‘no-show’ track record shows that you’re a reliable applicant and considerate of others’ time. Don’t miss this step if you plan on not going!

Cancel or reschedule interviews to avoid being marked as a ‘no-show’ candidate

Now that you’ve committed to a time slot, here are a few things to keep in mind before, during and after the interview process:

Before you get there…

Do your homework. Visit the company’s website and follow them on social media. Get familiar with the menu and their competitors. The more prepared you are, the more you’ll stand out.

Take a look at some commonly asked interview questions to get an idea of what to expect.

Before you leave…

If you felt good about the interview and what the job entails, ask your interviewer when you should be expecting to hear back. Employers know that applicants are likely looking at other jobs so it’s a reasonable request and will also give you a good idea of when you should write a follow-up note.

Send a follow-up thank you note

Always thank the hiring manager for their time. It’s a great opportunity to show off your work ethic and professionalism. If you’re not willing to go the extra steps now, what will you be like as an employee 6 months from now?

Keep it short and polite. You don’t need to reiterate all of your qualifications. Your resume and interview should have that covered. If you interviewer did not specify when you should be hearing back, feel free to ask in your note.

Even if you’re not the perfect fit for the position you applied for, following up is great relationship-building strategy. The hiring manager will keep you in mind for when the next opportunity opens up or recommend you to other businesses.

Continue your search

Don’t put your job search on hold while you wait to hear back. Keep your options open and continue to apply for jobs. Show up to every interview you get and give it 100% at each one. Who knows, maybe you’ll find something even better!
