I’m going insane

Both sides are debating this wrong and it’s driving me nuts.

Let’s say for a moment you wanted to convince me that the treatment of women in games is problem we should be addressing. Would the next logical course of action be releasing my personal information and putting it on the internet?

Let’s say you wanted to prove to me guys take advantage of drunk women on the street, and to do so you filmed & conducted a social experiment. However we later find out you hired actors and lied to them about how this footage would be used, making over 11 million people think they are dirtbags and further pushing your agenda. That’s kind of you.

Let’s say the opposition was writing articles defending and challenging your groups view. To combat, you target the advertisers of the websites hosting this content, with the goal of getting them to stop advertising. I think “digital guerilla warfare” is an appropriate name for this.

Let’s say you wanted to now fight back, since they are threatening your industry. So you propose on Twitter for people to start bullying nerds. I can't even make a joke about this one because it’s that stupid.

Let’s say you wanted to counter the other sides social media impact, to protect ethics in gaming journalism of course. So, you organize mass campaigns under a hashtag and target popular voices of the opposition. Flooding them with disgusting and hateful remarks, you know, what ethical people do.

Let’s say you wanted to shed light on the hateful comments being made by the other side. So, you write an article about it for the significantly large news outlet you work for. It’s titled “The woman who made a video about catcalling is already getting rape threats” and it proudly features Youtube Comments.

Look, both sides at one point or another have raised valid points. Both sides are also so far up there ass in trying to win what has turned into a war they can't even see how terrible it’s gotten. Stop. Take a breather, and grow the fuck up.

For the record, here are two examples demonstrating how to respectfully debate this topic.
