5 Habit Tips for the Fall Season

It’s pumpkin spice latte season!

It is time to face the facts: summer is over. As we leave the first half of September behind us and the gloomy clouds start occupying the skies, even the last group of people insisting on not bringing a jacket along for a night outing seem to be giving up. Yes, summer is great; but let’s not forget all the great things fall brings with it. Taking a walk in the park admiring the color carnival of trees, being able to have a cup of coffee looking out from your window to the breezy day, great seasonal fruits and veggies.

Do you know what else fall is great for: to get started on developing a new habit! The cool and crisp weather is great for outdoor exercise, and you can also find your mood being lifted with the great fall colors. Without further ado, here are 5 habit tips for the fall…

  1. Do stretching for 10 minutes first thing every morning. Have you ever watched a cat stretch when they wake from their nap? Stretching is a great way to signal to your body that you are awake and to relax your muscles, alleviating the tension.
  2. Start meditating every day. Start out with mini 15 minute guided meditations, close your eyes and focus on your breath until the timer runs out.
  3. Transform your daily walks to be brisker. Say, you are walking to the grocery store; imagine you are late and speed it up a little.
  4. Declutter your life! Go over your closet and reconsider how many times you’ve worn all the clothes in the past year. If an individual item hasn’t been worn more than three times, give it up for donation!
  5. Practice mindful eating. Do not watch something or look at your phone as you are eating. This is time you are spending with yourself, so no distractions.
