Climate change is a reality that we are facing. The more we do to prevent it, the better off we’ll be. Here are five habits you can start to help prevent climate change:

  1. Stop using plastic straws and plastic shopping bags. Plastic straws are a huge contributor to pollution. According to scientists, if everyone stopped using plastic straws, we could reduce the plastic waste in our oceans by 40% or more! Similarly, eliminating the use of plastic bags can greatly reduce the amount of waste that gets sent to landfills. If you bring your own bags to the grocery store, you can significantly reduce your waste footprint!
  2. Get outside and go hiking. Getting outside and enjoying nature is a great way to prevent climate change. Studies have shown that spending time in nature can have a significant positive impact on your overall health! It’s also a great way to reduce your carbon footprint and get some much-needed exercise!
  3. Reduce your meat consumption. Reducing your meat consumption can help reduce your carbon emissions and help combat climate change. Meat production uses a lot of energy and produces a lot of harmful emissions. By eating less meat, you can help reduce your impact on the environment!
  4. Buy local produce. Buying locally helps reduce food waste and lowers our carbon footprint. Try to buy produce that is in season so that you can reduce your impact on our environment.
  5. Recycle plastic. Recycling is one of the easiest ways to reduce your environmental impact! When you recycle, you are reusing materials that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill or polluting the ocean. There are many different types of recycling, so be sure to find out what’s available to you in your community!

In addition to these five habits, there are many other things you can do to prevent climate change! Remember, every little bit helps! Also, check out the last COP27, which has been realized in Egypt and served as a common agreement between countries that are dedicated to having a positive impact.
