A recent LinkedIn poll by Taylor Perkins (CTO at Slope Software) raised some fond memories from 2016. Though I know not all my colleagues will have picked that same adjective.

Below, unedited except for a couple of typos is a post I share on the topic almost five years ago to the day. Interesting to reflect on how some of those mention and some of those who commented have evolved and pivoted over the past 1,820 days. (Eileen Burbidge, Caribou Honig, Minh Q. Even as I wrote it I knew the Paolo Cuomo v Sabine VanderLinden was being lost but I did hold out that we would at least agree on InsurTech.

However of course in those post-crash, pre-pandemic years with hardly a care in the world it was entirely appropriate to spend months arguing about single letters.

With every start-up having a funkily misspelt name it was inevitable that even with insurtech firmly established that some would pick insuretech just to standout. If they lost just one sale because someone…
