This episode on Quartz channel is discussing the relationship between Virtual Reality and News, VR becomes one of the popular platforms to make experimental contents. Different from tablets and phones or paper, the traditional medium for newsreaders. Virtual Reality provides more intensive experience to watch the news, it not only takes the authors or editors out of their picture but puts audiences in the scenes to be a witness.

The cell where ISIS holds the prisoners in Virtual Reality

The dangerous in the themes is that our body and mind really believes we are in a someplace else in VR headset and environments. The experiences can strengthen the confirmation bias, and disconnect everybody who didn’t agree with the readers. Who choice the topics or points of view, to witness a scene base on the real worlds is very persuasive and convincing to readers in Virtual Reality spaces. The episode brings out of the threat of fake news on social media which increases the risks and effects of disinformations. Virtual Reality can be a double-edged sword to express an idea or news, and we should also get the awareness of the content as a VR user.

The player who wears a sensor glove

The video post by Emmy this week is a creative work that trying to bring Virtual Reality to more 4-D experience, which integrated a huge glove with multiple sensors and vibration units. The glove can synchronize the user movement in Virtual games and simulates human tactual sensations. It is pretty inspiring and fun to watch this video, the user experience is exceptional that the glove gives the live tactual feedbacks on the user’s hand. The installations and sensors in real worlds can give Virtual Reality works more layers and complexities of experiences. If it is possible it will be a challenge and fun to integrate some physical computing on our final works.
