Frustrated from her boring call center job, Mae gets the opportunity to enter `The Circle´ - a Google-esque tech company which offers on the job amenities such as leisure courses, bars and concerts, award-winning cuisine meals, Fridays motivational speeches, healthcare provision, residential homes or pétanque. The movie was inspired by the namelike science-fiction novel by Dave Eggers and tells the story of a company in which the borders between the public and private are blurring.

Initially impassioned, the young `guppy´ soon has second thoughts when the social media team approaches her and she is being drawn into the maelstrom of permanent transparency not even within the company. When close persons get damaged and her job even costs a human life, she has to find a way to stop the sinister machinations of the circle.

As this movie illustrates the digital dystopia of a working environment which even though perfectly keeping its employees motivated and informed goes too far with that intention and thus comes into conflict with freedom and human rights, it can also be seen as a future prospect of the internal communication sector. A must-see for everyone who is interested in the trends in this field and concerned with its possible developments. Maybe a good plan for the weekend ahead?

Have a great one!
