Scenario: Retrieves data from an email, creates a Spreadsheet and moves the Spreadsheet to a specified folder in Google Drive.

Assumptions: You have a Google account, all connections have been added and the Gmail module has been fully configured.

Trying to create a Spreadsheet directly in a folder in Google Drive but just can’t seem to find that option in the Google Sheets > Create a spreadsheet module? Well, we have good news and bad news. The bad news is that the module doesn’t have this option but the good news is that there is a workaround for this and it’s easier than you think! Instead of creating a Spreadsheet directly in a Google Drive folder, the Spreadsheet will be created and then moved to the folder in Google Drive. Let’s begin.

The Scenario Configuration

The scenario consists of the following modules: Gmail > Watch emails, Google Sheets > Create a Spreadsheet and Google Drive > Update a file

The Gmail module has been configured accordingly so let’s jump straight to the Google Sheets module. The data entered in the Title field is the name of the file/Spreadsheet. The Sender name and Subject are mapped from the Gmail module and the sheet name is entered in the Sheets field:

Now let’s take a look at the Google Drive module. The destination drive and the specified folder that we want to move the file to are selected. The Spreadsheet ID element from the Google Sheets module is mapped under File ID and the Change a file content is set to No:

The modules are fully configured and the scenario executed once. Here is the Spreadsheet that was created and moved to the folder in Google Drive:

If you want to add the text content from the email to the sheet, the Google Sheets > Update a row module needs to be added after the Google Drive module and configured accordingly.

And that’s it! With this little workaround you can create a Spreadsheet and automatically move it to Google Drive.

Happy automating! 🙌
