Netflix has been working on a new AI to prevent tedious pauses while watching a movie or serie. This AI, analyzes each one of the shots in order to compress it without affecting the quality of the video. Meaning that it reduces the amount of data requires to load the shot.

This new AI is focused mostly to users living in countries with emerging economies which watch content in their mobile devices.

This new technology is called Dynamic Optimizer and it is the result from the collaboration of Netflix with the University of Southern California and the University of Nantes. Hundreds of thousands of shots and hundreds of viewers were used to train the algorithm to detect the quality of an image.

This allows for a better compression of a video. Normally they are uniformly compressed, but this algorithm would be able to detect which shots can be compressed while keeping a really similar quality.
