MIT Enterprise Forum
We are pleased to announce that intellADAPT’s Founder and CEO, Dr. Nishikant Sonwalkar, will serve as the moderator for “Women in Science and Engineering: The Role of Education Technology in Globalization” hosted Friday, December 12th by the MIT Enterprise Forum in Cambridge.
From the official MIT Enterprise Forum announcement:
“We are fortunate to have Prof. Mildred Dresselhaus and Dr. Johan E. Uvin kick-off the first in a series of events that discusses how girls & women can be encouraged to participate in science & engineering, given our socio-economic ground realities. Throughout the series, we will hear from thought leaders in different sectors who will address issues & suggest solutions to minimize the gender gap.
Although women form 50% of the workforce, they are a small percentage in disciplines such as electrical & computer science, bio-engineering, & nanotechnology, to name a few. With the growth of the internet & mobile networking, there is a greater opportunity for girls & women to pursue science & engineering as a viable career choice. A gathering storm of a shortage of professionals in engineering areas is emerging as baby-boomers who are working in these sectors are set to retire over the next few years. Online learning & MOOCs have the ability & capacity to reach out & provide access in the areas of science & engineering to a larger percentage of girls & women than ever before. How can we harness this in an effective manner? We are looking forward to learning & discussing a variety of topics that span both academia & government in this space.
Crossfire panel format: After introductions & opening remarks by each panelist, the session will focus on the relevant issues via a Q&A session. The crossfire format will include both panel members discussing & asking questions to each other as well. Audience members will have the opportunity to participate during a ½ hour Q&A session before the conclusion of the event.”
