Intellectual Coloring Book
Every subject has their own color. Red for Language, orange for History, yellow for English, green for Science, blue for Math and anything else in black and white.
Every memory, song, and emotion follows relatively the same guidelines.
Hues and shades on the color wheel have their own stories, and in turn every story or aspect of my life is associated with different pigments. Reflecting back on how each tone relates to different points in my life, it has become a way to compartmentalize and grow. Over time, color coding has become a way for me to extract more understanding out of world and people around me.
I partook this act of associating things with color subconsciously until 2019 when I attended a summer program at Emerson College for Design. One of my mentors there, Brynna Bloomfield, sat down with me on the last day to discuss my college plans and how to best represent me in a letter of recommendation.
“It is apparent to me that you are utterly enthralled by color”
She went on to describe to me the power that I put behind my utilization of color, forming a basis for the relationship that I have with it now.
Rather that holding these ideas to myself subconsciously, I actively began to pursue a greater color theory through photography and continuing to fill up my archive of memories.
One aid in doing so was The Imaginary World of Natalia Seth, a photography book that tickles the imagination. Until encountering this book, my approach to photography was relatively standard and stiff. Just as Brynna had done for me, this book had made me actualize my inner thoughts and find more creativity in all aspects of my life.
And thus, begins my archive of color in my own Intellectual Coloring Book.
