Everyone is curious to know about what is the upcoming technologies for the future of smart cities. We got quite excited when tesla announced their autopilot car technology. But did you ever thought that if we are to drive autopilot cars we need to have that infrastructure? I came across the article ‘Driving autonomous vehicles forward with intelligent infrastructure’ where I realised how things can move forward in terms of intelligent infrastructure. The article has also mentioned us about initiatives taken by few companies self driven cars through the cities like Boston, Phoenix , Scottsdale and Babcock Ranch in Florida where they are testing self driven cars, self driven Grocery Suppliers, Taxi Services and autonomous school buses.

In my opinion, Checking with school buses is still tricky in terms of safety, and autonomic Grocery supplies is something we are in need of especially during this pandemic. The future says that we can expect 33 million autonomous cars by 2040 on highways. We can say this to be useful if most of the city’s infrastructure is ready for these which in my opinion is not to far.

The most important thing about autonomous cars is that it can allow data sharing with the smart cities which is beneficial to us in terms of not only infrastructure improvements but even safety. Imagine how many lives can be saved? And a in a question of hybrid of autonomous and we driving it they can share data of some reckless driving on highways and will there be need of road sensors ? Well, I don’t think so. If we manage to set data platforms for sharing of data from autonomous cars to smart cities some roads might not even need it. The article has helped me go through of why this can be the most predictable of future of Intelligent Cities.

Here is the article link for you all to go through it too, https://www.smartcitiesworld.net/opinions/driving-autonomous-vehicles-forward-with-intelligent-infrastructure.
