MSFT Teams Meetings — NO downloads, NO fuss, it just WORKS.

Joining an online meeting and being asked to download a plug-in or an application is a pain the butt. One of the knocks on Skype for Business (SfB) has been the join experience for attendees that don’t have SfB on their computer already (and the need for downloads).

Well, big news! Microsoft has solved the download issue full-stop with Teams. When an attendee (without Teams installed) joins a Teams meeting the join experience is easy, simple and does NOT require a download.

Steps to join a Teams meeting if you don’t have Teams on your machine:

  1. Click the join meeting link
  2. Web browser will open asking to select Web App or Download Client
  3. Select Web App, type your name and you’re in the meeting, voila!

Here’s a quick video demo of the join experience for a non-Teams user.

Over the last 2–3 years, the meeting join experience has been a big roadblock for companies looking to eliminate 3rd party conferencing services (e.g. GoTo Meeting, WebEx, Bluejeans, Zoom) and replacing it with Microsoft.

The time has finally come for no download meetings with Microsoft and it’s just the tip of the iceberg on what’s coming down the pipe for Teams in the next 12–24 months.

If you haven’t seen Teams yet, shoot me an email or comment on this post and we can setup a demo this week!
