Dear INTELLLEX Community

As we say goodbye to 2019, we are thankful for how far we have come over the past 4 years. From the days of serving our early adopters in local small- and medium-sized law firms, we now have a more diverse clientele which includes magic circle firms, local large law firms, government agencies and of course, small- and medium-sized law firms across multiple jurisdictions. We would like to celebrate and share what we have achieved last year.

Team INTELLLEX in 2019

Here’s a recap of our 2019:

Business— Revenue has doubled in 2019. In May, we were selected by the Singapore government as one of the approved vendors under a $3.68 million scheme to help local law practices adopt legal technology. We successfully obtained our ISO 27001:2013 certification for Information Security Management, validating our commitment to responsible data protection and security.

We were honoured to be invited to present our roadmap for developing an intelligent and intuitive knowledge system at the internal technology sharing sessions of global law firms. INTELLLEX has confirmed several paid projects and we are excited to work more closely with our clients in 2020.

Presenting INTELLLEX to government officials and potential clients

Partnerships — INTELLLEX was selected as the winner to enter into a co-innovation partnership with Thomson Reuters. We worked closely with the London team on a proof-of-concept project to enrich our auto-categorisation algorithms with ontologies and taxonomies developed in their Europe legal research and know-how solutions. We will build on the progress we have collectively achieved for upcoming projects.

We are also thankful to be continually involved in the legal tech community events organised by the Barclays Lawtech Eagle Lab, the Law Society, and Legal Geek. We have also kickstarted partnership programmes with law schools to involve academics and students in the process of training legal AI.

Technology — Our clients are able to integrate knowledge resources across different silos onto a consolidated enterprise knowledge graph, resulting in 6 times more knowledge connections between documents. The knowledge graph visualisation allows users to discover and navigate established and inferred connections, that were previously impossible to search for. We have also filed a patent application for our proprietary methods in classifying and retrieving legal documents.

Marching into the Age of Knowledge Work Automation

McKinsey has estimated the potential economic impact brought about by the automation of knowledge work across industries in 2025 to be $5–7 trillion (in annual value). The knowledge-intensive legal industry should seek to capitalise on this trend. This trend is driven by a confluence of factors: heightened clients expectations for more time- and cost-efficient legal service delivery, significant advancements in Big Data and natural user interfaces, and more powerful, less costly computing technology.

Here’s what we want to do in 2020:

Business and Partnerships — INTELLLEX is anchored by our mission to help legal teams maximise their collective knowledge intelligently and intuitively, to satisfy client needs and goals. In 2020, we aim to double the number of large law firm clients and work more closely with knowledge management teams within various government institutions (prosecution offices, stock exchanges, arbitration centers, etc).

We agree that legal tech should move beyond hype and experimentation to yield promising and tangible results for legal teams and even their clients. We are committed to working closely with our clients to accelerate this process.

Technology- We will be deepening our capabilities to auto-scale enterprise knowledge graphs and to enable users to train their own classification models more quickly.

A new chapter in a new office — We have moved out of our office in Jiak Chuan Road and have recently moved into 276A South Bridge Road. The new office is twice the size of our previous office, as we plan to grow the team by 30% in 2020.

Conclusion

INTELLLEX wants to develop an intelligent and intuitive knowledge platform for law, delivering the right knowledge to the right user at the right time.

We can’t do so alone. The legal industry’s transformation involves the entire ecosystem and we are grateful to have the support and trust of our clients, partners and mentors. With the right technology, process and culture in place, we are confident that the knowledge imperative will help legal teams achieve better business results in this new age. We are excited to start building on the bright opportunities that 2020 offers. Many, many thanks once again.

Note: We have launched our new INTELLLEX website for the new year!

We’ve refreshed our website to provide more extensive information about our expanded technology capabilities and services. We have also referenced our user research and project scopes to detail three main product offerings that would meet the needs of different legal teams.

Wishing you a productive and rewarding 2020 ahead,

Team INTELLLEX.
