Everyone in this life needs confidence. Because confidence is needed in everything we do in life…..business, academics, relationships, walking and working with God, leadership and responsibilities, pursuing personal goals and vision, etc.

A confident person is mostly likely to succeed and achieve greater excellence in life than the person without it.

People are mostly attracted to you if they feel you have confidence because confident people inspire and influence us. It is a fact that most people are not CONFIDENT or do not have CONFIDENCE in whom God has made them to be. So why do we need confidence, not just in the year to come but all through our life? The answer is not far-fetched.

[Tweet “Confidence gives the strength to make tough decisions.”]

It gives strength to follow a course of action one believes in despite opposition, disagreement, or even explicit disapproval from other people around you.

Skill alone is not enough to guarantee our best performance; we need to believe in our skills in order to use them at their best.

However, to build the kind of confidence that God desires for you, you will need to understand what confidence is and is not. Confidence is not independence but interdependence; not external but internal; not arrogance or pride but clear sense of humble self-worth, not self-centred; it does not deny other people in your life the right to be themselves.

One of the worst things that can happen to anyone is not to have confidence and when this is the case, it shows in — paralyzing fear, too easily giving up on personal opinions and judgement when challenged even when they are good ideas, chronic indecisiveness especially under pressure, shying away from even the smallest risk, failing to voice valuable ideas.

On the other hand, when you know your value it shows clearly in the way you conduct yourself. First, you know your value when you have confidence and do not need to be told. You respect criticism, you do not resent it. You challenge your weaknesses, you do not excuse them.

Confidence is valuable to your life and especially in the coming year because;

Confidence will give you perseverance

Confidence produces joy in times of challenges

Confidence is irreplaceable with anything in life

Confidence gives a promise of reward

Confidence gets things done

Truth to be told, confidence is the FACTOR you need to protect yourself from the negativity of other people and your enemies.

While experience tells you what to do, confidence allows you to do it.

Interestingly, confidence is a habit that anyone can build and strengthen every day. During this process you will be challenged by FEAR, WORRY and UNCERTAINTY….but it is a constant struggle, a MENTAL battle-field that MUST BE WON if your life is to be filled with abundance.

To build your self-confidence, it demands that you take some steps such as…

1-You must eliminate every roadblocks. These are in form of mental barriers like unclear conscience, lies about your weakness; emotional barriers like fearful anticipation and unresolved bitterness; and spiritual barriers like unforgiveness and rebellion.

2- You must deal with every unfinished business still existing in your life in the different areas of it. Unfinished businesses create guilty conscience and make you to run when you need to take a stand over an issue. One thing with unfinished business is that you can minimize the effect, ignore its importance, retreat in fear or deal with the issue. Whatever you decide to do with it affects the degree to which you will be confident.

3- You must deal with your fears. You need to remember that most fear only exists in the mind. Your imagination is powerful. Small issues often get blown out of proportion when you concentrate on them.

“What I always feared has happened to me. What I dreaded has come to me.” Job 3:25

Some confidence building strategies

  1. You must first know WHO GOD has made you to be….
  2. Get rid of the negative words from the monkey on your back…. and replace them with your own personal cheerleaders….
  3. Visualize your success so that it becomes crystal clear…that you know you will succeed….
  4. Reframe your past mistakes and give yourself a positive action plan….millions of people have made mistakes today, yet they are moving on with their lives….
  5. Set your personal goals…so that you feel good about what you achieve….and not struggling to meet the goals set by the society or people around you
  6. Build excellent support around you…read inspiring true life stories and develop an attitude of gratitude…
  7. Do something for yourself every week to celebrate your accomplishments.
