The first two weeks of my challenge have gone well. I met my goal of drinking 52 ounces of water each day over the last two weeks with the exception of one day. Now It is time to implement a new habit (while continuing to perform my previous one) it is time for me to wake up earlier.

Not just earlier of course (that wouldn’t be S.M.A.R.T.), I am going to begin waking up at 5:00 every morning. I’m joining the 5 club. This idea first started to intrigue me when I read a post by Jon Acuff (since removed, sad day), where he talked about the idea of when the best time to be selfish is. His answer, “at five in the morning.”

The idea isn’t to be selfish in a negative sense, like my 5 am hour is going to be for the purpose of setting myself up to take advantage of other all day long. No! The idea is that 5am is a time that I don’t have any obligations to others (clearly I don’t, I’m normally asleep!). It is a time to read those books I keep buying faster than I can read them, a time to blog, a time to develop other habits, time write those books I’ve always wanted to.

There are other reasons to wake up early on a consistent basis, of course, but they will be the topic of another post. This is the main reason I want to wake up early every day — so that I don’t sleep away the opportunities I have to win at life!
