Normally I reserve recommendations in book reviews for the end. But, for platform I’ll make an exception. If you have anything “important to say or sell” (as the book’s tagline states) I would recommend that you read no farther before clicking the cover to the left and buying it (I’m not just saying that for the affiliate income). If you would like more convincing please read on. . .

The author, Michael Hyatt, claims in this book that content is king, but platform is queen. In the noisy world we live in, where the internet has handed everyone a bullhorn indiscriminately, you need a platform to rise above the noise and get noticed. But what is a platform?

Hyatt says that a platform is “made up of people.” Not in the sense that you’re using people as ladders to success and recognition. But to get your message heard or your product noticed you need to develop a network of followers and contacts (a Tribe, as Seth Godin would call it) that know you, trust you, and are willing to share you with the people they know and love.

There is a lot of information out there these days about how to attract a lot of attention in the world of the internet. But most of it is transitory and quickly outdated. That’s where Platform stands out from the crowd.

Hyatt doesn’t get bogged down in the technical details of many different social networks, nor does he offer vague (and useless) generalities about success online. Instead, what he offers is enduring principles accompanied by practical how-tos that will, I think, still be applicable in a decade no matter how the social media landscape has changed.

I don’t have any serious criticism of this book. Even the layout is incredibly practical, written to be useful as a reference book and including an index of keywords. I checked it out from my library at first, but ordered my own copy before I’d even finished reading it.

If you don’t already own a copy, and want to be effective at getting yourself, your message, or your product noticed, I would encourage you to click this link and purchase your own copy today.
