Introducing the new developer tools dashboard

All our developer tools and docs together in one place 😍

Today we’ve added developer tools to our Developer Hub to make it easier to find everything you need to use the Intercom API 🎉

Since launching about 18 months ago, we’ve been adding a growing library of guides, tutorials and API docs. Now, you’ll also find the tools you need here too, whether it’s setting up and managing webhooks or applying for and managing your Access tokens or apply for OAuth access — simply sign in with your Intercom account.

The new dashboard —just log in with your Intercom account

Previously, these tools lived within your app’s settings page, which was sometimes confusing to non-developers and those who didn’t need them (‘what are these things?!’), and hard to find for those who did need them.

We also felt it would restrict us in the future — we’ll continue to add new useful tools for developers and having them in their own home makes it much easier to add these in a thoughtful and logical way.

Designing for consistency

This update is all part of our continuous efforts to make the developer experience on the Intercom platform evermore easy and enjoyable.

Our developer dashboard reflects the look and feel of the Intercom app. This is, of course, by design — one of our design values is consistency, and we wanted the Developer Hub to feel familiar and easy to use whilst also feeling like a fluid experience between the API docs and the dashboard.

We approach improvements like this just as we do with all our product decision — with thorough research and using first principles. We designed the new Hub following lots of research with our users to understand their pain points, concept testing with developers inside and outside of Intercom, and beta testing the final design with some of our Developer Program members (thank to everyone who gave us feedback👍).

Let us know what you think

We’d love to hear what you think of the new dashboard — and especially what other tools you’d like to see here. We’ve already incorporated lots of feedback from our beta testers

This is just our first step, we’re only getting started 🙌. We’d love your help and feedback to understand what’s missing, and where we go next.
