True Love is Agapao

We live in a world where the example of true love is shown primarily by opposite-sex unions. Opposite-sex unions dominate our world, culture, society, and religions. Our hearts and our minds have grown accustomed to the understanding that true love lies within someone of the opposite sex. We grow up being taught this understanding if not by our parents by society, culture, and religion. Everywhere one looks true love is shown in the example of opposite sex, wedding advertisements, romantic movies, love songs, poetry. So, now our minds think true love is all about gender. We begin to believe true love is a different sex from our own. True Love easily then becomes about what we see. But when have we ever been able to see Love? True Love is always the experience two individuals have with one another that draws them closer and closer together, until the moment they realize they are in Love, true love.

We often times hear the quote, “Love is blind”, but I believe Love sees perfectly. Instead of Love being blind, I believe we become blind to what we see here in the physical. True Love has the power to blind us to the point where we wind up falling in love with someone we would’ve never even considered as an option. Why does this happen? Because true love is unconditional love. When a person is in true love, they unconditionally love everything about that person. Every physical thing that a person sees while in true love disappears, and all they are able to see is Love. How does this happen? We are spiritual beings having a temporary physical experience. Which means we are a spiritual body occupying a temporary physical body. So, when an individual genuinely falls in love, they are falling in unconditional love with the soul of that person.

To fall in Love is to love someone unconditionally

Because we are spiritual beings love happens in a realm that we cannot see. But if we look at what we can see, we can learn what is happening in the spiritual realm and understand the reason why true love blinds us.

The Male and the Female Soul

The reason why we live in a world where opposite-sex unions are dominant is because God is trying to show us what is happening in the spiritual realm when two people fall in love. In the physical only the male and the female can become ‘one flesh’ or ‘one’. Jesus says, “So they are no longer two, but one flesh” Matthew 19:6. The design of their sexual anatomy makes it physically possible for them to become ‘one’. The reason why we primarily see opposite-sex unions is because this becoming ‘one’ that we see in the physical is what’s happening in the spiritual.

Our spiritual body is either male or female. And the male and the female spiritual body resemble that of the physical sexual anatomy of the male and the female. Shepard Hoodwin from Michael Teachings shows us this by explaining, “Male energy is directed, focused, goal-oriented, productive, and outward-thrusting or positive-charged (as in a magnet). It corresponds with linear, left-brained thinking, and with doing. Its positive pole (as I channeled it) is exertion and penetration; its negative pole is intrusion. Female energy is creative, process-oriented, unstructured, and inward-drawing or negative-charged. It corresponds with circular, right-brained thinking, and with being. Its positive pole is expansion and generation; its negative pole is chaotic destruction”. So, in the spiritual the male and the female can come together and become one soul. They become one soul because in the beginning that’s how all souls originally were.

In the Beginning

In Genesis 1 when God created everything, He created all life spiritually. It was not until Genesis 2 that God formed all life giving it flesh. This is why, the accounts Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 are slightly different (read The Differences of Genesis 1 and Genesis 2). So, when we read Genesis 1:27, “male and female He made them”, God was saying He made our soul. Our soul was made already together as one with our counterpart in the beginning. But when Adam and Eve ate of the tree in Genesis 3, this separated all the male and female souls they multiplied in Genesis 1. Which is why when we read about the story of Jonathan and David and it says, “that the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as himself”. This was the male and the female soul returning back together as one (read When Two Hearts Become One). As the NIV Bible writes it, “Jonathan became one in spirit with David”. Jonathan and David from that day on shared a soul because they were ‘one’ spiritually. This is what it means to be a Twin Flame, to have one soul in two bodies.

Our Spiritual Body is God’s Image and Likeness

Our spiritual body was made in God’s image and He created it first in Genesis 1. Genesis 1:26, God says, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness”. God’s image is not flesh but spirit. Jesus tells us in John 4:24, “God is spirit”. And God’s likeness is male and female as Genesis 5:1–2 explains, “In the day when God created man, He made him in the likeness of God. He created them male and female, and He blessed them and named them Man in the day when they were created”. God made us spiritually male and female in Genesis 1. When God commanded the one soul in Genesis 1:28 “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it”, this is where we get the soul of you and I and everyone that will be. The overall picture of Genesis 1 is God speaking and then it instantly coming into being, which means Adam and Eve were not flesh in Genesis 1:27 because they didn’t instantly have a child when God told them to multiply in the 28th verse (read Be Fruitful and Multiply). The 30th verse confirms Adam and Eve did as God commanded right away and multiplied their soul because it says, “and it was so”.

Our Physical Body is Humankind’s Image and Likeness

There is a difference between God’s image and likeness and the image and likeness of Humankind. The Bible shows us this in Genesis 5:3, “When Adam had lived one hundred and thirty years, he became the father of a son in his own likeness, according to his image, and named him Seth”. Adam’s image is flesh and his likeness is that he was a man. So, Seth was flesh like Adam and a man like Adam. But Seth is also made in the image and likeness of God because he has a spiritual body. As spiritual beings God is our Heavenly Father.

The First and Last Adam

Paul confirms the understanding that the soul of Adam was created first in Genesis 1 and then in Genesis 2 God formed Adam from the ground, He breathed into him giving him his spirit. In 1 Corinthians 15:44–45, Paul says, “If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. So also it is written, “The first man, Adam, became a living soul.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit”. God’s breath is our spirit which gives us power to animate the body. The soul alone doesn’t have enough power to animate the body without the breath of God. This is why the Bible describes us as asleep when we die because the soul is still very much alive it’s just dormant until Christ returns. Our soul is our true being not the body. The body will return to dust like God said in Genesis 3:19. “Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it” Ecclesiastes 12:7. In a live body the spirit and soul act as ‘one’ but they are two separate things. “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow” Hebrews 4:12. The soul was created not given (Genesis 1) but the spirit, God’s breath, was given when He breathed into Adam’s nostrils (Genesis 2). And because our spirit is God’s breath it goes back to Him because it’s His. (Read The Last Adam is Adam)

Twin Flame Understanding in the Bible

This can be hard to understand because of the teachings that we’ve had for centuries on these topics, but the Bible shows it to be true. In Deuteronomy 13:6 it says, “If your brother, your mother’s son, or your son or daughter, or the wife you cherish, or your friend who is as your own soul”. Twin Flames are explained as one soul in two bodies. The Bible is confirming the Twin Flame phenomenon is real and that He created it (read Biblical Evidence of Twin Flames).

Jesus and His Companion

Jesus and His beloved were like Jonathan and David. We don’t like to put Jesus in a relationship because He is God, and God is pure. But why would God being in a loving relationship be impure? Love is beautiful and pure. Jesus is God but He was also human just like we are. Humans need intimate connection (read Did Jesus Teach Celibacy?). There is nothing impure about Jesus loving another man nor was it sinful for Him to love another man. The Bible never says love between the same sex is a sin or forbidden. The only thing that the Bible says for two men not to do is have intercourse with each other, Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13 (read Same-sex Couples aren’t having Sex According to the Bible). So, Jesus having no sin obeyed the law of Leviticus. “For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin” Hebrews 4:15. An intimate loving relationship is not sinful according to the Bible.

Agapao is the Highest Love

Yes, Jesus loved all people and all His disciples, but He only loved one person intimately, and that was with His beloved disciple. Some argue that Jesus was not in an intimate relationship with His beloved disciple because the Bible also talks about Jesus loving Lazarus in John 11:3. In the story of Lazarus, Martha and Mary sent word to Jesus saying, “Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick”. The Greek word for love in this verse is Phileo. Whereas, the Greek word used for love each time it says, “the disciple whom Jesus loved” is Agapao. Phileo is a brotherly love, friendly, platonic. Agapao is to love unconditionally, it is the highest of all loves. The Greek words Eros and Storge are not written in the Bible. Now, we also see Agapao is used when describing that Jesus “loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus” in John 11:5. Jesus loved all unconditionally, just as we should. But the Bible is showing that He only loved one disciple intimately. Jesus shared the same love with His beloved disciple that a husband should share with his wife, Ephesians 5:25. Agapao. God is trying to get us to the highest level of love because that love holds so much power. Eros will not keep a relationship only Agapao will. (Read Agapao)

Same-sex Twin Flames

As we see with Jonathan and David and even Jesus and John, Twin Flames can be the same sex. One’s spiritual “gender” does not have to be the same as their physical gender. But some might ask, “what is the purpose of same-sex unions? They cannot reproduce”. Same-sex couples have the same purpose as opposite-sex couples that cannot reproduce, Love. The purpose of Twin Flame relationships are to help the individuals grow in unconditional love. The connection is all about growth and true love, and it’s the same for Twin Flames of the opposite sex. Love is what should bring any two people together. You don’t marry someone for the sole purpose of having children. You marry someone because you are in love with them and the result of that love between two people, if they are opposite sex, will most likely lead to conception. Love is what unites two people, not reproduction because reproduction is not always a guarantee (read The Spiritual Union of Marriage).

Conclusion

Twin flames are real, and they are not just opposite-sex unions, but they are also same-sex unions. I believe same-sex unions are here to remind us that we are spiritual beings in a temporary physical body that will return back to dust as said by God in Genesis 3:19.

When we can begin to understand that we are spiritual beings, we can begin to understand and fully accept same-sex unions and why God brings them together.
