Design and art are never apart — Intergalactico’s dosage of inspiration
New brand, new beginning! This post toasts the launch of Intergalactico, the Nordcloud Design Studio which silently happened in January 2018. But now it’s alive and kicking. Here’s few highlights of our life from February:
We’ve been looking for inspiration for our new design brand from several directions. Per old company traditions, our designers frequently go around local art exhibits. With our new office located conveniently next to Taidehalli, we had a lovely tour at Egs street art exhibition just few weeks back.
We hold every week collective moments of sharing and learning something about design. Our employee benefit program allows art addicts to use their benefits to collect a Museokortti, which enables us to drop in Helsinki museums at our convenience! Now that we’re located just next to Helsinki Art Museum at Tennispalatsi, we can drop by whenever after work.
Most recently some brave souls ventured out in the freezing February winds to enjoy the exhilarating spirits of the California design exhibition at Design museum.
Why do we do this? Sometimes even during working hours?
Exhibitions feed us with unexpected ideas. They provide serendipity that feeds into everyday work. Even thou individual pieces of art are usually quite distant from our everyday work on interaction and visual design, it can suddenly.
From my experience, I discovered by an accident in a photographic print from Ola Kolehmainen a splendid color scheme suitable for a design I was just working on. Would have been very unlikely to happen without wandering into the museum!
What ever it takes, whatever makes your clock tick. Bit of art every now and then will inevitably make you a better designer!
