Day 2: Sunday, December 2

Discovering the times when news construct the history.

We visited Newseum, a vibrant and interactive museum of news with seven levels and 15 galleries. All the members of our team were delighted with the museum where we engaged with stories of yesterday and today. n Considered one of the most interactive museums in the world, exhibits include the 9/11 Gallery which displays the broadcast antennae from the top of the World Trade Center; the Berlin Wall Gallery, one of the largest displays of the original wall outside Germany; and the Pulitzer Prize Photographs Gallery, which features photographs from every Pulitzer Prize–dating back to 1942.An amazing learning experience! Really proud to see Yannis Behrakis photo displayed in the #newsseum.

Having tasted the full potential of the Newseum visit experience, we got a deeper notion of Washington DC by strolling around and having some time for sightseeing. After we grabbed a cup of coffee, we headed to the Capitol Hill. Then, we walked in the National Mall and visited some of the Museums of the park. At the National Gallery of Art, we “experienced” masterpieces of both American and European artists. What particularly fascinated us was the room dedicated to El Greco paintings (among of which “Christ Cleansing the Temple”, “Madonna and Child with Saint Martina and Saint Agnes”, “Saint Martin and the Beggar”), Leonardo Da Vinci’s famous painting “Ginevra de Benci” and several other European painters such as Botticelli. We passed by the White House, parts of the modern American and, extensively, Global History. After a long, but fulfilling day, we returned to the hotel and got prepared for the start of an intense week, of our program.
