Day 3 : Monday, December 3

The program started and we were all very excited. Upon the introductory session regarding what we are going to work on the following week, we were divided into 4 groups: the story & web editing team, the audio team, the video team and the data visualization team. Paul Franz, the Andreas C. Dracopoulos Chair in Innovation and Creativity and Director of technology in the Ideas Lab, gave a speech about how to use multimedia to tell complex stories. He gave us some great examples of multimedia projects of The New York Times and Google, explaining that “Good storytelling stays the same, regardless the medium”. Then, Seth Jones, the director of the Transnational Threats Project shared his knowledge on disinformation, misinformation and deception by exemplifying the definitions and by presenting lessons of the Cold War and some implications for today. After the sessions, we had the chance to have a meeting with our editorials in order to work on our topics and then we had the great opportunity to have dinner with Michael G. Vickers, the Former Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence sharing his valuable knowledge and discussing with us challenges on both global and national security in the new digital era.
