Day 5 : Wednesday 5 December

On Wednesday we started our day with Heather Conley, Senior Vice President for Europe, Eurasia and the Arctic; Director of the Europe Program at CSIS. In her speech, she elaborated on interference and disinformation, while analyzing lessons from Europe.

Following H. Conley, Andrew Schwartz, Chief Communications Officer at CSIS, took the floor. He talked about journalism, fake news and the polarization of information. “What is fake news?” “how new is the phenomenon of fake news?” and “how big is the problem?” were some of the questions that A. Schwartz discussed with us during his session.

Then, we had production time in order to work on our project and after that, an editorial meeting group followed. The instructors gave us suggestions and directions on how to optimize our story.

After the intensive work, we had the unique opportunity to have dinner with David Sanger, New York Times National Security Correspondent and Senior Writer discussing journalistic issues. Thus, unfortunately another inspiring day came to an end.
