The International Baccalaureate (IB) is an academic curriculum for students beginning at an early age of 3 years old to 18 years old. The IB curriculum is taught in more than 5,000 schools and over 150 countries. IB program tenets are integrated effectively inside national education contexts. In fact, nearly fifty percent of IB World Schools are state-funded.

Comprised of 4 programs, the IB focuses on, “teaching students to think critically and independently, and how to inquire with care and logic. The IB prepares students in a world where facts and fiction merge within the news, and where asking the proper questions could be a crucial ability that will allow them to flourish.”

The four IB programs are:

Primary Years Programme (Ages 3 –12)

The PYP prepares students to become active, caring, long learners who demonstrate respect for themselves and others while participating within the world around them. It focuses on the development of the whole child.

Middle Years Programme (Ages 11 –16)

A framework that encourages students to create sensible connections between their studies and also the world around them, the MYP is comprehensive by design; students of all interests and educational talents will gain valuable experience from their participation in the program.

Diploma Programme (Ages 16–18)

Research suggests several advantages to completing the DP. The program aims to develop students who have wonderful breadth and depth of knowledge — students who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally, and ethically.

Career-related Programme (Ages 16–18)

The CP is a framework of international education addressing the wants of scholars engaged in career-related education. It results in further/higher education, apprenticeships or employment.

The most-renowned IB program is the IB Diploma, which is taken by students within the final years of high school in preparation for university admission. The DP consists of six subject areas and also the DP core, which is comprised of the “theory of knowledge” (TOK), creativity, activity, service (CAS) and also the extended essay.

The IB Diploma is well-regarded and accepted by several universities around the world due to its educational rigor and speciality in developing important thinking skills. Within the US, for example, the IB Diploma Program has grown to become the unofficial “college standard”, with universities admitting IB students at a higher rate on average compared to their non-IB counterparts.

The main advantages developed in students in the IB programs are the ability to think independently while driving their own learning; cultural awareness through the learning of second language skills; the capability of interacting with people from all walks of life in our increasingly globalized, rapidly-changing world.

In addition to all of this is the fact that these students are learning through a form of education that may set them on the trail to admission to a number of the best universities within the world.
