These poems are prime depictions of what society has in store for the future of technology.

Lizarraga’s poem speaks of the technological impact technology has had on humans. We’ve become all too addicted and accustomed to the regular fixtures technology has created in our lives. An article in BBC speaks on whether the human race has become addicted to technology. The articleo writes, “Technology is a wonderful thing if we use it properly-and we need to use it properly…A recent study by the London School of Economics suggested that in schools which banned mobile phones, children’s test scores increased by more than 6%.” Technology although still in its infantile stage, it is already a daily occurrence in the lives of many. Lizarraga writes, “Everything else is nothing. The internet is everything. A necessity to me…” .

The quote from her poem is reminiscent of a previous brief class discussion we had about FOMO and teens feeling they were missing out on what’s happening in their virtual and social world if they did not check their phone continually and monitor what was going viral or not. The tone of the narrator in Lizarraga’s poem is self aware but desperate. The narrator is aware of their addiction to technology but cannot help themselves up to limit or reduce it. She accept the great impact technology has in herself and in her world, and although she is self aware she does nothing to overcome it.

The second poem by Tien Dang speaks of the advantages and disadvantages of technology. It acknowledges both sides of the coin that technology has gifted society. Technology has both humiliated and uplifted us. The poems foreshadow that technology will soon be embedded into aspect of our lives. We will soon be waking up with robots in our bathroom and automated robots and augmented reality plasma screens.
