Using only a laptop, a mixer, 2 microphones, a 4G LTE Card, and the no-cost internet radio broadcasting service Radionomy, WTMJ is bringing thousands of high school football fans live play-by-play with their digital stream called “Preps Live”.

Last week they hit 1600 simultaneous listeners which was a new record!

The “Preps Live” broadcasts are available on multiple platforms: WISports.com, The Radio League Mobile App (a free download at RadioLeague.com), as well as the nation’s leading internet radio directories as part of Radionomy’s innovative broadcasting platform and distribution solution.

“Preps Live” uses Radionomys free streaming radio service (radionomy.com/create) which includes music licensing for songs played during breaks and between games, and cloud-automation for both live and pre-recorded content. In addition, WTMJ is able to incorporate ads to further support the broadcasts.

“As Wisconsin’s Radio Station, WTMJ has a great tradition of sports broadcasting, starting with the Green Bay Packers in 1929. In 2014, we continue to grow in our commitment to play-by-play with the addition of key high school match-ups,” said Tom Langmyer, Vice President & General Manager of Journal Broadcast Group’s Milwaukee Radio Operations.

“Our partnership with Radionomy has allowed us to broadcast high quality high school play-by -play sports with just a laptop and an internet connection. To date, we’ve already done more than 35 games and our local audience loves the service. We are very excited about the product and we are jumping into basketball with both feet. Our first basketball game will be on December 2, with more than 40 games (including playoffs) scheduled this season (through March),” said J. Pat Miller, Director of Marketing & Innovation, Journal Broadcast Group.

“The ability to bring these games to friends and families that can’t be in the stands is what WTMJ Sports is all about,” said WTMJ Radio’s Sports Executive Producer Doug Russell.

“With minimal hardware and the Radionomy streaming platform “Preps Live” is able to reach over 1600 concurrent listeners in real time and keep them engaged throughout the game. This is powerful and is setting new benchmarks for live and local broadcasting that can be ad supported and revenue generating,” said VP of Business Development for Radionomy, Thierry Ascarez.

Friday Night Lights has come to internet radio and they are just getting started. Next up- Basketball season, stay tuned.
