Types of Correlation

Correlation is a statistical measure that shows how two variables are related to each other.

There are different types of correlation:

  • Positive Correlation: When the values of two variables increase or decrease together, it is called positive correlation. The correlation coefficient is between 0 and 1.
  • Negative Correlation: When the values of one variable increase while the other decreases, it is called negative correlation. The correlation coefficient is between -1 and 0.
  • No Correlation: When there is no relationship between the values of two variables, it is called no correlation. The correlation coefficient is 0.
  • Spurious Correlation: When two variables appear to be correlated but there is no causal relationship between them, it is called spurious correlation.

Correlation is often used in conjunction with regression analysis to predict the value of one variable based on the value of another variable.
