Lazy Gen Z parents are failing their kids in 1 very sad way

One time at a parent-teacher interview, an educator asked my wife to address a rumor that had been circulating around the school about our family.

In an almost hushed tone, the teacher asked: “… Are you the family that doesn’t allow TV or video games?”

This was a bit much and definitely overstated, but I guess we did come by the reputation honestly by severely limiting garbage screens for our two sons when they were young.

Evidently, it was noticed by the teacher.

Our younger son, she explained, was much better able to focus than most of his peers.

Additionally, he actually showed interest in learning new things, as opposed to the other boys in the class who “all they can think about is Star Wars and Minecraft.”

In all honesty, our approach was as much about self-preservation as it was child development.

I noticed very early on that our eldest would first go zombie mode and then turn into a little demon after even a little bit of screen time … and raising a zombie-demon was not something I was particularly interested in doing long-term.

All kids are difficult at times, but I did notice quickly that too much time in front of the TV or playing vids completely changed my son’s personality.
