A Shocking (or Maybe Not) Incident at a Firefighter’s Club
Not much happens in Sydney, Nova Scotia. It’s a quiet, seaside town of about 30,000 people. Warm, friendly, welcoming people. Salt of the earth types.
Or are they?
A recent incident casts a dark shadow over an otherwise beautiful town and it both breaks my heart and fills me with anger. I’m not sure which is stronger.
The North Sydney Fire Fighters Club hosted a Halloween party recently. And four people turned up dressed as KKK, yes Klu Klux Klan members. That’s them in the photo.
They were permitted entry but were asked to take off their hoods. Volunteers also took the long wooden cross one of them had.
My question is why were they let in in the first place?
To their credit (and I use that term loosely), the North Sydney Fire Fighters Club did issue a public apology on their Facebook page.
Statement regarding the event of our Halloween costume dance.
We made a mistake!
We apologize to any and all of our community who were offended or hurt by our lack…
